Clarivate verification
How to check Web of Science indexing
Web of Science contains multiple collections and coverage categories. A journal’s inclusion in one collection should not be confused with a Journal Impact Factor or with coverage under another index.

Use the official journal record
- Copy the exact title and ISSN.
- Search the Clarivate Master Journal List.
- Confirm the publisher and title history.
- Review the listed Web of Science collections.
- Check coverage dates and current status.
- Verify any Journal Impact Factor separately for the correct year.
Collections are not interchangeable
Web of Science Core Collection includes different citation indexes. A journal should state its actual collection rather than use a broad logo that suggests more than the official record. Authors should compare the exact wording with institutional requirements.
Indexing is not the same as an impact factor
A journal can be discoverable in a Web of Science collection without having the specific metric an author expects. Conversely, metric eligibility can change over time. Verify the exact journal, metric year, and official record instead of relying on a badge.
Common misleading claims
- “ISI indexed” without naming the current collection.
- “Web of Science submitted” presented as approved.
- A metric from another provider displayed beside the Clarivate logo.
- Coverage of a former or similarly named title used for the current journal.
- Historical coverage presented as current.
Document the check
Save the official result and note the date, collection, and coverage period. This is particularly important when a manuscript is being submitted to meet funding, degree, accreditation, or promotion requirements.
